Already walking through the streets of Granada the more than 330 senior citizens from Mijas who are part of the second expedition to this city as part of the Senior Citizens Trips organised by the Town Hall through the Senior Citizens Department. The first three groups travelled to Melilla and the fourth to Granada, so we can say that the retirees and pensioners of the fifth group have arrived to reconquer Granada, from Sunday 24th to Wednesday 27th of November.
The journey began after nine o'clock in the morning, when six buses with travellers from the three urban centres departed from the Aquamijas car park. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), was present at the departure to wish a good trip to the expedition, who were accompanied by the councillors of the local government team, Juan José Torres Trella (PP) and Marco Cortés (PP). The councillor for the Elderly, Silvia Marín (PP), was also present at the departure to make sure that everything was ready.
Mata wished the elderly a good trip because "the aim of the Town Hall is that the travellers enjoy, that they have a good time and spend a few days away from the daily routine, which is what we work for". In this regard, the mayoress pointed out that organising these trips "involve a great effort because we want them to go as well as possible, and behind them there is a lot of work, from administrative to security, control...", said the mayoress.
For his part, Torres Trella said that "Granada always has some surprise to discover, and although it is a city we have visited before, now we are doing it in a different way and with other people, which is a new way of discovering it".
Something that the neighbour Lázaro Galán affirmed "we are going to have a good time, because that's why we travel, to enjoy; and I can tell you that because I travel a lot and I know that it's worth it".
Six buses and one destination
After a journey without a hitch, and after a short stop at the Abades de Loja for breakfast, the seniors arrived at the Hotel Gran Luna in Granada where they had a briefing on everything they were going to see on this trip, as well as recommendations and advice. They also met the guides who are accompanying them on the trip and the medical team who are making sure that everything runs smoothly.
After leaving the luggage in the rooms, a hearty lunch and off to the street. The travellers were divided into two groups, one visited the Monastery of St. Jerome, and the other went to the Sanctuary of Fra Leopold and visited his crypt.
On Monday 25th, the groups will swap tours and on Tuesday 26th they will visit the Science Park. In addition, they will have free time to walk around or go shopping, and each day they will finish the day on the dance floor.
In fact, already in the evening of the first day, a light dinner, a good time on the dance floor and a good night's sleep, as there is still a long trip ahead.
