Twenty young people from Belgium and Estonia visited the Mijas Village on Monday, as part of a European exchange programme in which eight teenagers from Mijas are also participating. Until the end of the week, the group will visit the most important tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol, including our white village, the Bateria Park in Torremolinos and the capital of Malaga. They will also enjoy a fun Halloween party at the youth hostel in Torremolinos, where they are currently staying. All so that the participants can share moments of leisure, culture and coexistence. "This project is about intercultural learning and personal development, we are trying to develop their skills and active participation among young people", said Pedro Muñoz, coordinator of this project promoted by the Intercambia Youth Association.
Aitana Ruiz is one of the girls from Mijas who travelled to Belgium in July thanks to this youth exchange and now it is her turn to act as hostess, assuring that language is not a barrier in this type of meetings. "It is true that the first days are more complicated because you don't know them and, in my case, I make a lot of mistakes, but by using gestureas and signs and losing the fear of embarrassment, people always understand each other".
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, welcomed the group on Monday in the plenary hall of the Town Hall, also accompanied by the provincial coordinator of the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ), Alba Ortiz. Both wished them a happy week, and encouraged the young people from Mijas to participate in these initiatives, "because there is no better culture than to get to know the world and these experiences are very good, they open our minds, we see other cultures, other countries and other ways to develop as a person", said the mayoress, while the head of the IAJ Malaga added that "I wish we had had this kind of programme at the time, because the change of scenery is always very good for young people, they learn a lot":
The young people from Mijas who are interested in discovering this programme can go to the Youth Office, located in the Teatro Manuel España, for information and to sign up. According to the councillor of the department, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), "we always inform about these activities on our Instagram account so that everyone knows about them and we are organising almost an exchange per month. Some are aimed at over 18 years old and others, as in this case, are for younger boys and girls".
