The restaurant El Torreón de La Cala presents its Rice Week, which will take place from the 28th of October to the 3rd of November and is now in its ninth edition. For a fixed price (30 euros) you will be able to taste different speciality rice dishes of the house, such as souppy rice, 'negro' rice, negro, rice with boletus, with oxtail, accompanied by starters, drinks and desserts. 

According to the co-owner of the restaurant, Salvador Gallardo, who presented the event on Tuesday, "from the organisation, we have tried to balance the week with a little bit of everything, always with the restaurant's signature dishes". Gallardo highlighted the proposal for the 1st of November, "on that day we will make our star rice dish, rice with oxtail. Those who have tried it here already know it and those who haven't should come and taste it, because it's going to be spectacular".

In addition, as every year, the gastronomic initiative will pay tribute to an outstanding person from the municipality. This edition recognises the work of Cristóbal Lozano in local sport, which is why, according to Gallardo, "on the day of the tribute, the 28th, we will have a very special lunch, which will be full of surprises for this year's honoree, Cristóbal Lozano", who expressed his gratitude for this recognition: "I am from La Cala, I was born here and after travelling I came back to my homeland. I am very happy to receive this tribute and very nervous about the surprise", he said.

Institutional support

Supporting the initiative, the Tourism Department of the Mijas Town Hall has recognised the importance of the businesses as the main driving force in the economic development of the municipality. The councillor responsible, Francisco Jérez (Vox), affirmed that "from the Town Hall we can help and promote the entrepreneurs, who are the main engine of the economy. They are the ones who really drive the economy, both the entrepreneurs and their workers, they are the ones who provide the service to tourists, and the better they do it, the more people come, which helps and strengthen our economy".
