The councillor for Tourism at Mijas Town Hall, Francisco Jerez (Vox), presented this Tuesday the exhibition ‘Ceramics and Fashion in Mijas’, which will be on display at the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office throughout the month of October, and which will feature the creations of Rosalía Cuevas and Virginia Díaz, two artists from the Mijas Handicraft Association.

"In Mijas, we deeply value traditions and local craftworks is an essential part of our cultural heritage. This exhibition is an invaluable opportunity for residents and visitors alike to learn about and appreciate the talent and dedication of our artisans. Promoting these activities not only enriches our cultural heritage, but also boosts local development and tourism", Francisco Jerez said.

As for the artists' careers, Rosalía Cuevas has turned her passion for ceramics into a profession. She has enjoyed this art since she was a child and took up her love for ceramics again a couple of years ago, taking it to a professional level.

Her main technique involves a meticulous process of kneading by hand, followed by firing in a kiln and applying a special paint for ceramics. The final result is a shiny, smooth piece that reflects her dedication and artistic skills.

Virginia Díaz has dedicated her life to sewing and fashion since she was very young, inspired by her grandmother. Despite economic difficulties, her passion and perseverance led her to self-taught herself in various disciplines related to fashion design. In April 2019, Virginia launched her own brand, Virdies, focusing on sustainable and eco-friendly garments for young women who want to dress uniquely. Her work reflects a combination of creativity and love for detail. 

 

To conclude, the councillor Francisco Jerez stressed that "this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire and acquire unique pieces created carefully by these two craftswomen belonging to the Mijas Handicraft Association", and invited residents and visitors to Mijas to participate in this cultural event that "celebrates local creativity and talent".
