The neighbour from La Cala Cristobal Ruiz, Favourite Son of Mijas, died at 58 years old on Wednesday 18th after suffering a pneumothorax a week ago that caused him brain damage. He had been in the Intensive Care Unit of the Fundacion Jimenez Diaz University Hospital in Madrid since Tuesday 10th of September.
Cristóbal, received in 2015 the title of Favourite Son of the Villa de Mijas. In February 2015, he was awarded the Goya for Best Adapted Script, for the film ‘Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy El Cachondo’. He also received the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos Medal and the Líber Award for writers, journalists and scriptwriters. In December of the same year he was named "for his merits and for being an exemplary neighbour", Favourite Son. The La Cala cultural centre takes his name after a municipal recognition he received the same year.
In 1985 he moved to Madrid, where he has lived ever since, to combine his literary activity with the creation of scripts for film and television. Ruiz will be buried in the San Cayetano cemetery.
The Mijas Town Hall decreed on Thursday a day of official mourning in the municipality, for her part, the mayoress lamented the loss of this Mijeño who, as she said, "has always waved the flag of Mijas throughout Spain".
