Initially approved the modification of the PGOU allowing the construction of a care centre

  • Located in the urban centre of Las Lagunas, it covers an area of around 35,000 m2
  • El pleno respaldó por unanimidad la aprobación inicial |

The plot known as El Morralillo II will now be designated as land for urban development for tertiary use

The ordinary plenary session held on Wednesday 26th at the Mijas Town Hall unanimously and initially approved a modification of the PGOU corresponding to a plot located in the town centre of Las Lagunas, known as El Morralillo II (SUP L-14 sector), and SG L3.2. The land is classified as sectorised land for development with residential use and, after the completion of the process, it will be designated as land for orderly development with tertiary use.

Thanks to this modification, it will be possible to develop a social assistance facility for community accommodation, in other words, a palliative care centre that will occupy a plot of about 35,000 m2.

The change of zoning is justified by the public interest of the proposal which, among other variables, has taken into account the care service it will provide, as well as the important impact on the creation of employment and wealth that will have a direct effect on the municipality. Furthermore, by receiving the designation of "orderly", the administrative procedures and the simplification of the necessary paperwork will be speeded up.

During her speech, the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP), recalled that this modification has its origin in an agreement signed in 2005 and that it has all the favourable reports. "The project will be an innovative project, which will be directed, although it comes from private initiative, to the residents of Mijas and, from the urban planning point of view, as all reports are correct, we have to send it to the Provincial Planning Commission to obtain all sectoral reports", said the councillor, who clarified that the land will not change its designation until the final approval of the modification of the PGOU.

The point had the favourable votes of the entire corporation. For her part, the councillor of the Municipal Socialist Group Laura Moreno, who said that we cannot "forget that we are talking about a private residence", hoped that "the future care centre can meet the real needs of the economic capacities of our elderly" and advocated working "without looking at the political wing" in favour of a public residence.

Burgos expressed her satisfaction about the unanimous support of the corporation and highlighted the goodness of a tool such as the LISTA (Law for the Promotion of Territorial Sustainability in Andalusia), thanks to which the government team can "overcome obstacles to solve the real problems of the municipality" and then added that it is a time "to look ahead and promote projects for the future". She also reported that the centre will be operated by a foundation and that, therefore, it will be the people of Mijas who will benefit directly from its services.

Finally, a modification of the general road system is also contemplated, the execution of which is essential to guarantee the connection of the sector, as well as to ensure mobility and accessibility.

At the beginning of the plenary session, the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), expressed her condolences to the PSOE bench and the family of Rafael Torrubia, mayor of Periana, who died a few days ago of a heart attack at the age of 52.
