The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the Councillor for Public Roads, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), presented last Friday 'Mijas with soul by candlelight', an initiative with which from the 5th to the 7th of July the town will be decorated with more than 15,000 candles and will host a medieval market, as well as an attractive calendar of concerts.
This new proposal, which continues and expands the range of possibilities of the cycle 'Mijas with soul' (which began on May 30th with a conference by Dr. Carmen Alegria), will offer a full schedule of activities designed for all interests and ages.
Firstly, some of the most emblematic spots in Mijas Pueblo, such as the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle San Sebastián and the Muralla area, will be lit up with candles. The aim, they say, is to "create an enveloping and magical atmosphere that highlights and enhances the innate charm of Mijas".
In addition to this, there will be a medieval market which, for three days, will offer residents and visitors a tour around different parts of the town where they can enjoy "parades, juggling, jesters and stilt walkers, Andalusian music, a large children's play area with a total of 40 play stalls, workshops for young and old and a belly dance show", said Leandro Sosa, from Malik Themed Events. From Malik, they point out that three shows are planned for Friday and five on Saturday and Sunday. There will be attractions for children such as the big wheel, a merry-go-round and a pirate ship with popular prices and workshops for the little ones.
The mayoress highlighted the broad nature of 'Mijas with soul by candlelight': "From the Town Hall we wanted to create different activities that together create a whole and that both young and old can enjoy. Nobody doubts that Mijas is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and, with this initiative, we want to show just that, that we are captivated by its innate magic, by its soul".
Concerts
Music will be high on the agenda of 'Mijas with Soul by Candlelight'. The Miguel González Berral auditorium will witness a tribute concert to Mecano (Friday 5th of July), the show 'Que ni las hambres las vamo'a sentir', by El Selu (Saturday 6th of July) and 'Lorca sonoro', by Pasión Vega (Sunday 7th of July), a show with which the artist from Malaga travels through the music and words of Federico García Lorca.
All these shows will be at 21:30 and tickets can be purchased at lacocheraentradas.com. Tickets for the Mecano tribute are 15 euros; for El Selu, 18 euros and for the Pasión Vega concert, 30 euros.
In addition, there will be a bus service from the fairgrounds of Las Lagunas and La Cala, as well as from the car park located in the quarry of El Puerto de Mijas Pueblo. This service will be operational from 18:00 to 02:00 hours.
