On Friday the Viogenex group met in La Cala, in which all the entities that collaborate to assist foreign women victims of gender violence participate. As every quarter, they review the situation and also put on the table new measures to improve the tools for the protection of those affected. "It is very important that we coordinate among all the entities that are part of Viogenex and collaborate to assist this group of women victims of gender violence, unfortunately, the number of cases is increasing and we have to address these problems", said the councillor for Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP). Among other issues, she said that "we need an agreement with taxis so that when these women find themselves in certain situations they can use them, and we also want to carry out an awareness campaign with businesses". Ceballos also pointed out that representatives of Málaga Acoge joined this Friday's meeting. 

Ask for Ángela

This campaign, according to Viogenex, focuses on the dissemination of the so-called ‘Ask for Ángela’ protocol, initiated in the United Kingdom in 2016 and which aims to prevent sexual assaults in nightlife, nightclubs, bars and pubs. "It is a programme that has been implemented internationally, although here in Spain it is still pending and, although we have done it before, we are going to repeat it", said Katja Thirion, technician in the Foreigners Department of Mijas Town Hall, who did not hesitate to value the work carried out over all these years by this group. "It is very important for all these foreign victims of gender violence", said Thirion, who, with the arrival of summer, stressed that "we are already working on the prevention of possible cases because we attend to many foreign women who do not have a home here, who are on holiday and find themselves lost or alone". 

Another objective of this quarterly meeting is to follow up on the cases. "The Local Police is following up 114 cases of gender violence victims", said the sub-inspector of the Gender Violence Unit of the Mijas Local Police, Ángel Blanc, who clarified that to these must be added the cases handled by the Guardia Civil in Mijas. 

Happy ending

On the other hand, Blanc was pleased with the happy ending of one of the cases he has been monitoring: "We attended a victim who was five months pregnant, who had no support, and last Monday, she sent me a picture with her baby and everything was fine, she was already with her family and for us it is a great satisfaction".
