In response to the waiting list for parking spaces for subscribers in the four municipal car parks, the Local Government Board has approved an increase in the number of parking spaces, from the 556 currently available to 679. In the Las Lagunas car park there will be a total of 39 spaces, in Mijas Pueblo there will be 206 spaces, in La Candelaria 304 and in the El Juncal car park there will be 130.
"We had a long waiting list and we had to solve this problem as soon as possible", said the councillor for Facilities Management, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), who added that, "on the other hand, in the El Juncal car park, we are going to carry out a draw to see who the new subscribers of these passes are, because it has been two years since the places were given out, and the waiting list is bigger than the number of places".

In this regard, the Local Government Board has approved another measure, recorded in the modification of the regulations for the use of municipal car parks, to meet another of the subscribers' demands. "We have modified the parking systems and from the moment it is put into operation again with the parking space updates, two number plates are going to be allowed for each of these spaces. In other words, any family with two cars will be able to use the space with both, but not simultaneously", Torres Trella said. As for motorbikes, "if they have two, the two motorbikes will be able to use that space simultaneously", explained the councillor for Facilities Management, who clarified that both measures will come into force in approximately one month.
Concession
The rates for the parking spaces for subscribers of the four municipal car parks is 50 euros per month. To access the parking spaces in the municipal car parks, applicants must be registered in Mijas, the vehicles must be up to date with the payment of the municipal taxes and the car park must be within the radius of their home. The parking spaces are granted for a minimum of two years with the possibility of extension. The rest of the parking spaces in the car parks are maintained on a rotation basis with the first hour free of charge and one euro for the first nine hours.
