The National Police arrested in Mijas the perpetrator of the 110,000 euro robbery from a safe in a bank in Malaga. The 38-year-old man, who is self-employed in a company that instals security systems, was aware that the video surveillance cameras had been temporarily disabled in the branch where he committed the theft, so he was able to easily access the room where the money was.
The investigation, carried out by officers attached to the Robbery Group of the Provincial Police Station, began in mid-January, following a complaint from a representative of a bank in Malaga, who reported the theft of 110,000 euros from the safe in one of the offices in Malaga.
Initially, one of the bank's employees in charge of the safe, which is an area with restricted access to other employees, noticed a significant oversight in the safe, thus setting off the alarm bells at the bank's offices.
During the investigation, the Provincial Forensic Police Brigade also conducted an ocular inspection of the bank's control centre, with the mandatory authorisation of the security department, detecting "manipulations in the recording equipment and in the placement of the cameras".
The officers gradually closed in on the main suspect, a technician linked to a company that the bank subcontracted, who, some time ago, had already carried out similar work on security systems in the same offices. After clarifying the robbery, they proceeded to search his home, located in Mijas, seizing 1,355 euros, four vehicles, documentation and computer material. The detainee was brought to the Court of Instruction number 6 in Malaga.
