The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), received this Friday in the Town Hall the mayor of the Bulgarian city of Sozopol, Tihomir Yanakiev, who visited Mijas for the first time, accompanied by his deputy mayors and representatives of the Department of Culture. As a first impression, Yanakiev valued "the tranquillity that can be breathed in this beautiful town, which is enchanting"During the meeting, the mayoress of Mijas and her Bulgarian counterpart exchanged mainly cultural and touristic issues. Yanakiev told us that the town of Periana in Malaga has a twinning agreement with this Bulgarian town since 2022, an issue that was of great interest to the mayoress Ana Mata, "especially because it would allow us to continue strengthening cultural ties with this city and this country and, in this regard, we must remember that up to 384 Bulgarians are registered in Mijas and are perfectly integrated in our municipality, living in harmony with the rest of our neighbours".
This year, Sozopol is once again organising an international festival dedicated to the culture and gastronomy of Andalusia. It will take place on May 16th and 17th and, once again, it will count with the participation of one dance group from the Popular University of La Cala, led by the teacher Víctor Rojas, "who will be in charge of promoting the name of Mijas and showcasing our popular traditions".
To conclude, the mayoress pledged to continue collaborating with this Bulgarian town "because these meetings are very productive for Mijas, in the sense that we are mainly a tourist town but culture is also an essential part of our town".
This evening, from 19:00 hours, the Bulgarian delegation will also offer in the square of the municipal branch of La Cala a sample of their popular music and dance, accompanied, of course, by the groups from Cala.
During the meeting, gifts and typical products of both municipalities will also be handed out.
