The neighbours' association María Zambrano (Las Lagunas) handed over, during the celebration of the XXI AFA (Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients and other dementias) Fuengirola-Mijas Costa on Monday, the funds raised in their last charity show, 'Encanto Oriental', which took place on the 3rd of February in the Manuel España Theatre in Las Lagunas. A total of 2,785 euros were raised, which will be used to replace a screen in the Adolfo Suárez centre (Los Pacos) and to purchase new tablets for the association's users.
The president of AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, Paqui Lebrón, acknowledged that "new technologies are very important for the cognitive stimulation of Alzheimer's patients, so we cannot stay behind, this donation was great for us". The president of the María Zambrano neighbourhood group, Charini Cortés, pointed out that "from the association we are always willing to organise events to benefit other groups that do everything for people in need, and AFA is one of them".
As for the show 'Encanto Oriental', both groups stressed that it was a complete success, in fact 450 tickets were sold. "It was a sell-out, there were lots of people, so we are grateful for the contribution of all those who attended, and of course to the neighbours' association María Zambrano, for this initiative and for organising it", said Lebrón, while Cortés thanked "all the artists in the academy, all those who bought tickets that day, the sponsors... but we must especially thank all the patients who make us aware that we need to continue fighting against this disease, because nobody is free from such circumstances".
