It includes activities for the whole family, comedy, dance, and school theatre, as well as charity and social events

The Las Lagunas Theatre presents its programme for the first quarter of the year. As always, there will be something for everyone, for children, comedy, solidarity events, school theatre and social events such as the International Women's Day gala. This programme seeks the involvement of local spectators. According to the councillor responsible for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), "this programme reflects some twenty plays of different considerations, both from the point of view of comedy, tragedy and musicals, without forgetting the different sensibilities, such as children's audiences with plays for the whole family. In this way we respond to all the cultural concerns that Mijas has, both for our neighbours and for those from the surrounding area who wish to attend. In addition, with this distribution we try to give content to the theatre with other activities that have traditionally been carried out such as the celebration of international days.

This weekend we will have Teatro Mijas with the play 'Yerma' in aid of the local assembly of the Red Cross and a solidarity ticket for 6 euros. The family theatre brings us several proposals. Firstly, the 'Wizard of Oz', on Saturday 27th of January; 'Encanto Oriental', as a family musical on the 3rd of February; 'The Three Little Pigs', on the 11th of February; 'Mirabel. Un musical con encanto', on the 18th of February; and in March, on the 3rd, 'Alice in Wonderland'.

There will be dance on January 28th with the Danzarti academy; music with 'De Sur a Sur' and the Ciacio-Pino duo on February 2nd, and a lot of theatre. La cochera comedy' arrives on February 10th, 'El sueño cóncavo de Max' by the Kaustyko company takes to the stage on February 17th.

Mijas also joins the Andalusian Theatre Festival cycle with several performances.  Los inventores', a play by Mago Oliver will be performed on the 24th of February and 'Federico nos vuelve Lorca' on the 25th by Escénico 700 PTS and La Alquitara.

In March, one of the highlights will be 'Entrevista con mi hija Mari', by Antonia San Juan on the 2nd. And of course, on the 8th of March, the annual gala to commemorate International Women's Day will be held by the Family and Equal Opportunities Department.

Mijas, a film village

Cine Mijas will bring us within the cycle 'Mijas, un pueblo de cine' on the 9th of March 'No ni ná'; on the 10th of March, 'Los búhos de la tercera edad', and on the 15th of March the Gala Cine Mijas.

The quarter closes with Jose Tejada's 'The Magic Experience' on the 16th of March, and two more plays on the 17th, 'Doce sin piedad', also by Teatro Mijas, and 'Voces de barro', by Surterráneo Teatro, on the 23rd.

According to Maldonado, "from Culture we always take into account the different social sensitivities. We are very much in favour of those works or activities that have a solidarity aspect. We want to promote them because culture also has that social dimension that gives it additional value. In addition, we are always committed to local theatre and different charity events".

School theatre

The students of the Mijas schools will enjoy several plays, adapted to different ages, with which the aim is to awaken interest in culture from an early age. The selected plays are 'Tuyo Cid', 'Sintiendo ODS', '¿Estás ahí?' by La Carpa Teatro, 'Peter Pan' and 'The Bremen town musicians'. As always the prices are affordable, and tickets can be purchased from two hours before at the theatre box office and also on the companies' online pages.

The booklet with the quarterly programme will be distributed in the different municipal offices, in local shops and in the Cultural section of the Town Hall website.
