The Andalusian Forest Fire Extinguishing Service (Plan Infoca) declared the fire that broke out on New Year's Eve in the areas of Las Lomas del Flamenco and Los Pedregales to be extinguished at 21:30 hours on Monday 1st, forcing the eviction of ten residents of a block of apartments, who subsequently returned to their homes. The Infoca, which received the fire alert at around 00:15 hours, activated two groups of forest firefighters and two fire engines and was supported by firefighters from Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Marbella and Málaga. At 03:00 hours the Plan Infoca reported on its social network account X (formerly Twitter) that there was a "favourable evolution of the works to put the fire out". For her part, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), on her X account, thanked "the firefighters of Mijas, Infoca, the Provincial Consortium, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Marbella, as well as Civil Protection, Local Police, Civil Guard and 112 for their perfectly coordinated work".

The fire was brought under control at 9:00 hours on Monday 1st, according to the Infoca, although two groups of forest firefighters and two fire engines continued to work in the area until the fire was considered extinguished at around 21:30 hours. The Infoca personnel were divided into two shifts, with a total of 16 forest firefighters and two fire engines working in each shift.

Regarding the causes of the fire, Infoca said that "the Forest Fire Investigation Brigade is working on it, which is responsible for drawing up a technical report that will take a few days" and added that "they may have a first impression of what it was, but they have to translate it into an official document, which in a hypothetical case could reach the courts".  They point out that "it is not so easy to know the causes, unless it is clear from the beginning, which is not the case". There are many hypotheses that are being considered, among them the one that is gaining most strength is that of fireworks or flares, but until the report is drafted, they stress, we will not officially know what the causes of this fire were.

Likewise, the Infoca team pointed out that "the gravity of this fire was not the surface area that burnt, as the fire was contained early, but because there were many stumps, which are tree trunks, which remain burning inside and a lot of water must be applied to ensure that it is perfectly extinguished, as if they are not properly put out they can cause the fire to rekindle", adding that "it is an area with a lot of scrubland and trees".
