On Thursday, the Department for Foreigners of the Mijas Town Hall announced the activities organised by the department to celebrate Christmas. All of them will be held during the month of December and will take place at the Branch Offices, on the Branch Office Square and at the Las Lagunas Theatre.
The Christmas programme will begin on Saturday 2nd of December, according to the councillor for the area, Mario Bravo (PP), "with the traditional charity stands, which are usually set up on the Branch Office Square and which these weeks will have a marked Christmas character, but here it is not just about having a good time, we are also looking for a positive effect on society, so we hope that the associations that participate can raise a lot of funds to continue providing their services". These tables will be set up every Wednesday and Saturday until December 23rd.
The following day, on Sunday 3rd, the 'Protectora de Animales Domésticos' (PAD) will once again hold its Christmas market, also on the Branch Office Square in La Cala, from 11 to 15 hours.
On Sunday 10th, this same building will host a Christmas ballet show by the Fama Academy at 5pm. Up to 90 children will take part in this 'show', which will begin a little earlier on the street itself, stated the director of the academy, Manuela Veronese, "because we will bring Father Christmas and do some more lively numbers with our older students to encourage people to come into the auditorium of the Branch Offices and enjoy the show offered by out children, who will dance beautifully".
More activities
The Foreigners Department's main event to celebrate Christmas will take place on Thursday 14th of December at the Las Lagunas Theatre, which for the third year will host the International Christmas Show. It will feature artists from England, Germany and Ukraine, among other countries, and will include a gastronomic surprise that will allow the public to taste the well-known mulled wine, Christmas tea or typical Christmas sweets. "The event will start at 18:00 and admission will be free until full capacity is reached", said Laura Cordoba, from the Foreigners' Department, who also noted that " for the convenience of those who want to attend the event, we will provide a shuttle bus at 17:00 hours from the plain of the La Cala fairground and the Tourist Office square. However, in case you want to use it, you will have to notify us through our email frd@mijas.es".
In short, we are looking forward to a month full of Christmas events with an international touch, predicted the councillor for Foreigners, "in which we will share traditions, music, customs and all the cultural wealth that our municipality offers", said Bravo, stressing that "this programme seeks the integration of foreign residents and Spaniards, therefore we invite all citizens to attend and enjoy these Christmas events".
