The third edition of the International Mountain Film Festival is here!

  • On Sunday November 12th, the Las Lagunas Theatre will once again host this event in memory of Juan Antonio Gómez Alarcón in the afternoon

The festival includes conferences, the screening of short films and parallel activities, such as a hiking route through the Sierra de Mijas on Saturday the 11th

Make a note in your diary of this date: Sunday November 12th. Above all, nature lovers, because the third edition of the International Mountain Film Festival is coming up, which will once again show us landscapes of the province and Andalusia, or take us on a hike up the Toubkal. The ascent of the Moroccan mountain will be the opening event of the festival at six o'clock in the evening. José and Lázaro Moreno, from the Mainake Club, will be in charge of this conference, "in which they will tell us about their adventure there and show us photos of areas that have disappeared due to the earthquake", said one of the organisers of the festival and patron of the QSD Global Foundation, Carmen Gómez, sister of the missing mountaineer Juan Antonio Gómez, who will also be remembered with this event.

After this talk, Antonio Villalba, Ismael González and Juan Luis Vega, from the Almoradú Mountain Club, will take us on a journey through Sierra Nevada following the dividing line of the seas, which flow into the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea. And then we will cross the rivers and mountains of Sierra Tejeda and Almijara with Juan Ignacio Amador, president of the Club de Montaña y Senderismo Comando Preston. Afterwards, at half past seven, we will start the screening of short films and documentaries that will take us on a journey to incredible places around the world. "They are short films with messages of self-improvement or love of nature or sport, which is the banner I used to bring this festival to Mijas because it is ideal to remember my brother Juan Antonio and it is also a way to share and spread this type of films, which is very beautiful, I invite all the people who don't know it to come and see it, because they are going to enjoy it very much", said Gómez.

The celebration of the event also includes a hiking route through the Sierra de Mijas on Saturday. It will start at nine o'clock in the morning from the Tourist Office in the village. "It is a circular route of eleven kilometres and of medium difficulty, it is a very pleasant walk in the mountains, I hope, for all those who want to participate", added the organiser. Those interested should register at cultura@mijas.es. All activities are free of charge.

Institutional collaboration
The Department for Culture of the Mijas Town Hall is collaborating in the organisation of the event, which is aimed at all audiences, as indicated by the councillor responsible for the area, Verónica Ensberg (PSOE), who encouraged all residents to attend because "it is not only for nature lovers but for everyone, so that they can learn a little more, and I think it is a very important festival with which we support the Gómez family because Mijas does not forget, making it a very emotional festival".

The head of the department, Francisco Gutiérrez, wanted to highlight "the collaboration of both Mijas and local hiking groups such as Mainake, Almoradú and Comando Preston, who collaborate selflessly in the section of the conferences and put a lot of love in telling us about their experiences this year".
