The charity stalls in La Cala are adapting to the autumn timetable and this last week of the month they are already set up in front of the La Cala Town Hall from 11:00 to 14:00 hours. We visited them on Wednesday, and next Saturday they will also be there to collect donations and offer items to raise funds for different associations in the municipality in this initiative by the Department for Foreigners. Collectives such as the Lions Club, Mijas Felina, Donkey Dreamland, Ace Shine, Soroptimist and Domino will be setting up their stalls to sell handicrafts and second hand goods.
Alessandra Roselli, a Domino volunteer, said "we try to sell things for the dogs, we do it for them". Mercy Chapman, a Lions Club volunteer, said that "every end of the month on Wednesdays and Saturdays we are here to do free blood glucose testing. It just takes a little jab to do the test, so we can see if the blood glucose level is high. We also raise money to help people who can't afford to spend that much on testing, or to buy things that are too expensive for them.
Their aim is always the same, to raise funds for these charitable purposes, through piggy banks and donations, events and activities, or the sale of items. The Domino Association told us that "we are an animal association and we help dogs looking for homes. We are here in Calahonda and we have a place in Casares where the dogs can stay, like a small kennel".
You can visit the charity tables in La Cala de Mijas, next Saturday 30th of September, and they will return on the 25th and 28th of October.
