The councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), announced on Monday that the works for the creation of a new roundabout in front of the Virgen de la Peña school and those relating to the complete remodelling of Calle San Bernardo have now been completed, and the infrastructures are open to traffic and pedestrians.
Both projects are part of the same initiative, with an investment of 693,000 euros and a completion period of four months.
"The new roundabout will allow an important reorganisation of traffic on such an important road in Las Lagunas as Camino de Coín. Precisely, at its junction with Calle San Bernardo, the junctions have always been dangerous, as it was necessary to manoeuvre and visibility was not adequate. Now, with this roundabout, all mobility is improved and road safety is improved in this area, which is also a transit area for children, as there is a school in the vicinity", said the councillor.
The works promoted by Infrastructures and Works have consisted of a comprehensive remodelling of all services, such as the supply network, street lighting, telecommunications and electricity. "Without a doubt, the most important work underground is the separate rainwater and sewage network that has been installed, which until now was a single network, and will allow for better drainage of the water when it rains", says Martín, who points out that "in this area of influence of the Mijas water park, work has been carried out in the last seven years, all kinds of large-scale actions have been undertaken to prevent the historic flooding that has been occurring in this great black spot of the city", to which he added "for the department it is a great satisfaction to have been able to eradicate these serious flooding problems that these neighbours had".
In the same way, the aesthetics of the road has changed, as the new pavement that has been installed is in line with the rest of the municipality, with the parchment paving being more functional and hygienic. "Another of the great advances that we achieve with this type of integral remodelling in the city is the eradication of architectural barriers. With this work, we have adapted the spaces for people with reduced mobility, because any resident of Mijas has to be able to move around the town without obstacles", concludes the also deputy mayor.
