They are the classics of the road but they continue to be elegant and stylish. We are referring to the 33 cars that took part in the first Criterium de Coches Clásicos Villa de Mijas, a regularity rally that took place on Saturday. Mijas once again enjoyed the always attractive world of rallying, on this occasion with a regularity event in which the drivers receive the sections just before setting off to comply at a series of points with the speed set by the organisers.
33 classic cars, many years old but living a second youth, set off on Saturday afternoon from the area of the Compás passage to drive, in the first part, a series of timed sections from Mijas, towards Alhaurín el Grande, Entrerríos, the climb to the Mirador del Águila and again regrouping at El Compás. Later, in the second outing, they drove through La Alquería, Camino de Valtocado and back to the village to finish this enjoyable trip driving a classic car. It is not a sporting event, the roads are not cut off and it is not based on racing, it is rewarded for regularity in each section.
With this Mijas continues its romance with the world of motor racing, after the three Raids of Mijas, the Spanish Rally Championship, Criterium Malaga, Rally Costa del Sol, Rallysprint, Slalom of Valtocado and the time trials of the three cores. These 140 kilometres were organised by the Mijas Town Hall Festivities Department and the Mijas Classic Motorcycle Club. Without a doubt, the classic is a way of understanding life "as if it were another child, I look after it" said Enrique Sánchez, one of the participants.
Once the race was over, the trophies were handed out in the Compás area to the winners of all the categories into which this regularity rally is divided.
The overall of the first Criterium Villa de Mijas was won by the couple formed by Francisco Javier Guerrero and José Luque with Ford Fiesta Super Sport who were delighted with the event in Mijas. The winners of the category under 1,100 cubic centimetres were father and son Pedro Gajete and Pedro Gajete González. The winner of the oldest car was Alain Garnier with his partner Alain Craenenbroeck with a model registered in 1962. Salvador Rubén Serrano and Carlos Ruiz won the Legend category. Antonio Salas and Ángel Salas led in the non-instrument category. "We are very happy because people are congratulating us, many did not know that Mijas was so big, they have enjoyed the stages very much and I think it has been worth it for the drivers and the fans" commented the organizer of the event, Juan Manuel Gómez Ponce from Motos Clásicas Mijas.
