Enthusiasm and anticipation at the presentation of the poster for the Las Lagunas 'Romería

  • The poster was unveiled by the mayor of Mijas, Josele González, the councillor for Festivities, Tamara Vera, and the parish priest of Las Lagunas, José María Ramos |

The pilgrimage will take place on Sunday 4th of June after the celebration of Holy Mass

As every year, in 2023 Las Lagunas will also celebrate one of its most deeply rooted traditions: the 'Romería' (Pilgrimage) in honour of the patron saint of Las Lagunas, the Virgen de la Paz, which will take place on Sunday 4th of June after the Holy Mass at 10:30 hours. For this reason, the official poster was presented on Thursday 18th of May by the Department for Festivities of the Mijas Town Hall, in collaboration with the Brotherhood of Jesús Vivo and the Parish of San Manuel González de Las Lagunas.
"It will be a day where we will not only be able to walk through the streets of Las Lagunas, but also, when we get to El Esparragal, we will enjoy the traditional popular games, the meetings, and, in short, it will be a day of re-encounters to be with those we love the most", said the mayor of Mijas Josele González (PSOE), who unveiled the poster together with the councillor for 'Fiestas', Tamara Vera (PSOE) and the parish priest of Las Lagunas, José María Ramos.
Vera, for her part, pointed out that it is an important day as it will be the prelude to the season for the different fairs and festivities in our municipality. Also, as we know, according to tradition the pilgrimage is always the last weekend in May but as it coincides with election day it is delayed to the next Sunday, in this case to the 4th of June".
Neighbours accompanied the brotherhood on this event, which was also attended by a large representation of the Local Council. According to the mayor, "this is the first Romería after the pandemic that will be held without any restrictions and we will be able to enjoy it to the full", something that was also highlighted by some members of the brotherhood, such as Loli Ortega: "our big days are approaching and we are already busy with preparations for the Romería. We are very excited, because this year things are a bit more normal".
On the other hand, the councillor for Festivities wanted to "thank Mijas Comunicación for the creation of this poster", and she also thanked "the brotherhood and our parish priest". To liven up the atmosphere, the Unión del Cante Choir dedicated some songs to the Virgin during the presentation. "We are very proud and grateful that they always join us to liven up this event. We are starting to warm up as on the 4th we will be singing to her too", declared one of the members of the choir, Cati Márquez.
