The solidarity stands kicked off the spring season with great weather and a large number of visitors. On Saturday the 12 participating associations set up tables in the square in front of the Branch Offices in La Cala and the Costa Soul Singers choir accompanied the event.
Until May these special tables will continue to be set up every Wednesday and Saturday at the end of the month, from 11am to 2pm. Katja Thirion, from the Foreigners’ Department, recalled that “these events were born during the pandemic. The associations had suffered a lot because they couldn’t raise funds because they were all locked up, and it was a great success. The atmosphere is great, in the open air, and everyone is working together”.
Here, different clubs and charities related to the animal world, children’s aid in India, foreign residents and women’s associations take the opportunity to raise funds and make themselves known. Some of the volunteers told their experiences. Alejandra Roselli, a member of the Domino association for dogs, introduced her group. “We have been working for about five years. We don’t take in many dogs, but we take care of everything, their vaccinations, treatments, state of health... When they are ready, we offer them for adoption and mainly they go abroad. On the tables, we sell some items and also our president makes very realistic pet portraits, which can be ordered and purchased”.
The Asociación Diksa España helps with the schooling of children in India. Dora Buli, one of the volunteers, explained “these children need everything. With very little money we help them with the canteen, uniforms, material and everything they need for their schooling. These tables are a boost for us, because this way we can collect some money and make cash at the end of the month to send to the volunteers in India”. Under the slogan ‘make solidarity your gift’, the participating groups ask for the help of the residents by purchasing any of their items, or through donations. The good weather helped to make the event a success and many visitors and neighbours took advantage to collaborate. This was the case of Freddy Cornejo and his son, who did some shopping. On this occasion, he bought a football shirt for his son. “We have the opportunity to cooperate and help and we always do so, in one way or another, with funds for the dogs, or with a solidarity purchase, but always with the intention of helping these organisations”.
