The carnival festivities returned to Mijas in their ‘large format’ version, after being limited in previous years due to restrictions because of the pandemic. The residents responded by giving their all to join in this celebration with incredible enthusiasm and a great deal of creativity, imagination and ingenuity in the elaboration of their costumes. If there is something to highlight about this celebration, it was the family atmosphere that was enjoyed during the three days, Friday 24th, with the children’s contest, and Saturday 25th, with the parade and the adult contest in Las Lagunas, and Sunday 26th with the traditional parade and the election of the best costume in Mijas Pueblo. These are moments to share in community and, above all, to enjoy, regardless of age... because the carnivals are for everyone. “It makes people bring out their funniest, most childish side, it is so exciting”, said Ángela Postigo, a neighbour and mother of one of the contestants. She is not wrong. “There are many families participating in this carnival, each with a different theme but all with the same goal, to have a good time”, said the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), who wanted to thank everyone for their involvement in this event. For her part, the councillor for Festivities, Tamara Vera (PSOE), said “we were looking forward to this moment and from here we congratulate both the children and their parents because they have worked very hard”.
