The Tourist Office in Mijas Pueblo hosts until the 24th of February a selection of paintings by Renate Georgi Wask, a German artist who lives in Calahonda during the winter. The theme of this pictorial collection is the sea in all its splendour, although some works dedicated to the Coastal Path in Mijas also take centre stage.
“I like to walk along the path every day, from Calahonda to La Cala, and I take photos to use at home and transmit in a painting what I feel when I see the sea”, explained the author of the exhibition, adding that “obviously, I use a lot of blue in these particular paintings, in its different varieties, although I also like warm tones, especially when I represent a sunrise or a sunset”.
‘Mare Nostrum’ is the name of Renate Georgi’s first exhibition in Spain. In it, we can see her latest fifteen works, painted in the last two months in acrylic and watercolour, on canvas and paper. “I like to paint in solitude and silence, usually at midday, and I am very lucky to live in a flat with a sea view all day long, which helps me to maintain that atmosphere”, she said.
The councillor for Tourism at the Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín (Cs), present at the opening of the exhibition, stressed that “in these paintings you can see the sensitivity and affection that the artist feels for the sea, which fortunately we have in our municipality, and also for our Coastal Path, so frequented by residents and visitors”.
Likewise, regarding the fact of exhibiting in the Tourist Office, Martín stated that “this is one of the municipal buildings with the highest number of visitors, so it is an advantage for artists who want to make their work known”.
The councillor for Tourism in Mijas also encouraged the citizens of the municiality “to come and see this collection, because it is really worthwhile, and they can do so from Monday to Friday from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon”.
