The works on the Mijas La Nueva collector are progressing at a good pace. They are already 80% complete, according to the councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who announced the advances on Tuesday the 24th. “The project began almost four months ago and has a completion period of five months, which means that it is at almost 80%”, said the councillor, who added that, if there are no unforeseen events, the work will be finished within a month. Martín explained that the project involves the construction of a sewage collector which will complement the existing one in La Alquería and has been planned together with other ambitious projects to build different collectors along the Mijas Pueblo cornice. The one in Mijas La Nueva involves the construction of “a 1,300 linear metre route in which a 315 mm diameter collector will be installed” and 368,485 euros will be invested in it. With these works, Mijas La Nueva will be connected to La Alquería, with a collector covering more than 3,000 metres. Both areas will be connected to the municipal water network, improving services and sanitation in these residential areas, which will have a separate network for rainwater and sewage. “Once this sewage network is completed, it will be possible to connect urbanisations that did not have one or which may be developed in the future”, thereby eliminating the need for sewage treatment plants, the councillor explained. In addition to these collectors, the government team is working on the construction of two other infrastructures of this type on the east and west borders of Mijas Pueblo. The first will extend over 6.6 kilometres and the second will cover 12 kilometres.
