It is now possible to map out the extent of the future ‘Gran Parque’ (Grand Park) of the Costa del Sol. The Mijas Town Hall informed on Wednesday the 7th of December that it has obtained the ownership of the entire green area of the Ahogadero sector. This was reported by the councillor for Town Planning in Mijas, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), who said that “as of today, we can say that all the work has been completed, having been in progerss since 2017, to obtain an area of 36 hectares, which is where the Grand Park will be located”. Councillor Ruiz stated that obtaining all of this land has been “a really arduous task, a real puzzle to resolve, because all those 360,000 square metres were made up of tens of plots, each one with a speciality, each one had a different surface area, from 6 square metres to the largest plot, covering 200,000 square metres”. According to the councillor, this step, which is fundamental for the execution of this great project, has also involved reaching consensus with the owners of the different plots of land and different town planning operations for the preservation of their rights. “This has also involved dialogue and transparency with the owners, whom I thank because they have agreed with us that this project was important and that their land would be affected and that in the end they would have to cede it in accordance with their rights, obviously”, Ruiz pointed out. The ‘Gran Parque’ is one of the most ambitious projects in Mijas. The local government assured that it will be the largest park in the entire province of Malaga and a benchmark in Andalusia. In addition, it will provide a green lung for the municipality and a new tourist attraction, with the integration of the archaeological site. The investment could amount to around 15 million euros.
