Guadalete Street works are in their final stretch

  • View of the current state of the works on Calle Río Guadalete

The reforms include the renovation of the pavements to improve accessibility for citizens, according to José Carlos Martín

The first deputy mayor and councillor for Infrastructures and Works in Mijas, José Carlos Martín (CS), announced this week that the comprehensive remodelling work on Calle Río Guadalete in Las Lagunas is in its final stages and will be completed before the end of the year. “In this area there were problems with the drainage and the evacuation of water as it was a unitary network, so these works have meant the installation of a separate network for rainwater and sewage, and with this, we are improving the quality of life of the residents as we will avoid this type of trouble”, said Martín. These works were awarded together with those relating to Madreselva and Buganvilla streets for a total of 830,000 euros. Once Calle Guadalete has been completed, the department plans to begin work on the other two streets, which will also undergo comprehensive remodelling within four months. Therefore, on Calle Río Guadalete, in addition to the installation of a separate rainwater and sewage network, the project has allowed for the renovation of the water supply, street lighting, electricity and telecommunications networks, among others. “With this project we have tackled another problem such as accessibility, eradicating architectural barriers so that people with reduced mobility can move around without obstacles,, added the councillor, who highlighted “that we have changed the flooring on ground level and replaced it with a more functional material that is in keeping with the image throughout the municipality”. Martín also recalled that the integral remodelling work on the parallel street (Río Tinto) is also being carried out with an investment totalling a further 278,000 euros. “ We will be investing a total  amount of 1.1 million euros in the Nueva Laguna neighbourhood to modernise all the services and combat flooding, thereby renovating this important area of the centre of Las Lagunas”, concluded the deputy mayor.
