Mijas to the conquest of Rome with its offer of sun & golf

  • The International Golf Trade Fair (IGTM) will be held in the Italian capital next week, where Mijas will have their stand

The recent opening of La Zambra Hotel and the ‘Mijas Sun & Golf’ brand will be just some of the promotional offers that Mijas will bring to the eternal city

From the 17th to the 20th of October, Rome will host the International Golf Travel Market, an international trade fair of the golf industry which has been celebrated since 1998. Mijas, of course, will participate in this new edition. “We are going to participate with a lot of enthusiasm and eager to continue promoting a sector which is fundamental for the local economy, as it helps us fight tourism seasonality and brings quality tourists to the municipality, a top golf tourist destination”, declared the Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who added that “we have enough tools and proposals to show how our golf offer is constantly improving its quality, with a growing number of tourists coming to Mijas, and we want to make sure they keep coming”.

To conquer Rome, Mijas is presenting a strong and attractive offer to the golf industry: the quality of its 12 golf courses, international competitions, climate and a strategic location on the Costa del Sol. “Mijas has many things to offer, among them its location in the heart of the Costa del Sol, its climate, infrastructures in the province of Málaga, and other tourist attractions found in the municipality, as any tourist or golfer coming to play can also enjoy our beaches, local gastronomy and our white typical Andalusian village, our nature and many more incentives that make Mijas one of the main tourist destinations in the world”, explained Martín, who will be accompanied by the director of the Tourist Office in Mijas, Juan Carlos Acevedo, who highlighted that their agenda is going to be fully booked for the three days of fair. “We are going to make business contacts and promote our municipality as one of the best golf tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, consolidating our Mijas Sun & Golf Brand”, highlighted Acevedo.

Partnership with the private sector

“Our partnership with golf entrepreneurs is also going to be promoted in Rome”, Martín pointed out. As the recent opening of La Zambra luxury hotel, with almost 200 rooms, yet another incentive added to the Mijas Tourist Offer. Cecilia Löwenheielm, El Chaparral Golf Club Commercial Director, highlighted that “what really makes the difference in Mijas is our nature surrounding our courses, being next to the beach and surrounded by a Mediterranean pine forest”.

Mijas, Sun & Golf

The municipality has its own brand, 'Mijas, Sun & Golf'. On its website all golf courses in the municipality can be visited. The department participated in the last edition of this fair held in Wales (UK) last year, where the new Mijas brand was well received by the sector, attracting the interest of professionals. 

World tournaments

Representatives of the sports department highlighted the promotion of national and international tournaments to be held in Mijas and the launching of a golf training school. The Councillor for Sports  highlighted the importance of participating in the IGTM Fair in Rome: “Mijas must be there as it is a great  opportunity to make contact with the best golf courses and promote our golf sporting agenda”, he said.
