The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism of Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs), made on Wednesday, the 5th, a report on the municipality’s participation in the International French Travel Market (IFTM) held in Paris a few days ago. “The French-speaking market has increased by 24 per cent in the Costa del Sol this season, continuing the growth trend since 2021. It means that it is a potential tourist, as it maintains the tendency to visit our destination, so in the IFTM, we have held meetings with tour operators and industry professionals to continue adding Benelux visitors,” said the Councillor.
The Mijas delegation was promoting the city as a whole and its coastline, golf courses, and the white Mediterranean village. “French tourists are especially attracted to them”, and are some of the reasons why the municipality is chosen by thousands of tourists each year. “For Mijas, the French market is one of the most important. The numbers reflect this, as France has become our third main visitor market,” added Martín.
This season the Tourism Department has opted for the Selfie Route, a tour of the most picturesque corners of the village where you can take a photo with the best views. Mijas has been highlighted in several publications for its constant tourist growth since the pandemic surpassed this year’s figures for 2019, thus beating its record.
The First Deputy Mayor recalled “the appointment of the town in 2022 as ‘Capital of Rural Tourism in Malaga’, and in 2021 to the 20 best rural coastal destinations in Spain. Additionally, the well-known tourist accommodation website eBooking highlighted Mijas as one of the fastest growing destinations last year, increasing its searches by 69 per cent”.
