Foreigners Department resumes the language exchange programme

  • At right, the Councillor responsible for the area, Arancha López.

The meetings will take place in the three retirement homes, and the first sessions will take place on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of October

The language exchange workshops that the Department of Foreigners set up in 2011 are back. They will continue to be free of charge, and will be in the morning from 10:00 to 11:30 am. The Councillor responsible for the area, Arancha López (Cs), reported on the programme this morning. "This is an activity we have been running for several years now. It has great participation from Spanish-speaking citizens who want to practise English, and English speakers who want to practise Spanish". López added that it is "a good activity carried out with native speakers, and that it is a completely free initiative for which there is no need to sign up, just go to the senior citizens' centres on the days of the workshops".

"Workshops are on Tuesdays in Mijas Pueblo, Wednesdays in La Cala, and Thursdays in Las Lagunas in the three centres in the retirement homes", added the technician of the area, Laura Córdoba. She also pointed out that they hope the initiative will have a good response "because of the interest it aroused even during the pandemic period when people were eager to return. We expect the same welcome as always", said the technician.

They will be led by a bilingual coordinator who will answer any questions that may arise during the exchanges, an opportunity to practise English close to home and without many barriers.
