After the renewal of the 147 uniforms of the Mijas Local Police staff, made with 100% recycled materials, and of the fleet of vehicles with a dozen hybrid cars, the Town Hall is now providing the officers with new material to make their day-to-day work safer. The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), announced this morning, together with the Chief Intendant of the Local Police, Juan Manuel Rosas, the purchase of these "important" tools "which are part of their everyday equipment". He explained that "all the motorbike unit's helmets" are being renewed. Almost 60 helmets were bought in various batches, "the latest being 35 up-to-date helmets models", and for the purchasing, "the officers have been listened to" according to their needs. These are full-face helmets with an aerodynamic design that include ventilation devices and micrometric fasteners and DOT certification, one of the highest approval standards in the world. The most demanding homologation standards in the United States and Europe, according to municipal sources.

In addition to the helmets, inner waistcoats have also been purchased for plainclothes police officers who "until now could not wear the outer waistcoats". "They are inner waistcoats so that they are safer when on duty. The plainclothes unit is a fundamental unit within the Local Police, providing essential service and, therefore, it is necessary they have the best tools to provide and perform their work," said the Mijas Mayor.

Taser Guns
The new equipment includes batteries for the two Taser X2 electric guns the Local Police already had, and two new Taser 7. "It is an in-between tool that can be a defence and a weapon tool. So, in danger or in difficult situations, they have an additional tool to provide a security service", explained González.

Other equipment pieces purchased now are metal detector gloves that have been placed in all vehicles patrolling the Mijas streets to identify bladed weapons or other dangerous objects during searches.
