The Town Hall and the Malaga Basketball Club sign a sponsorship agreement that will last for two years

The Unicaja team that plays in the 'League Women's Two' will carry the name of Mijas on their jerseys, following the sponsorship agreement signed between the Mijas Town Hall and the Malaga Basketball Club. It will last two years and includes the Mijas brand printing on the first and second team jerseys, thus promoting our destination through sport. "Through this women's basketball team, we are projecting what we are, the third city in the province of Malaga, which is constantly growing and is in fashion. But also, in a way, it certifies Mijas' commitment to the sport," stated the Mijas Mayor, José González (PSOE), during the official presentation of this sponsorship on Monday.

The agreement includes other terms, said the Unicaja Basketball president, Antonio Jesús López Nieto, including " the development in Mijas of some games of the season, to link with this municipality even stronger". The Mijas Town Councillor for Sports, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), pointed out that this sponsorship is well received by the Mijas Basketball Sports Centres " as our instructors will have the chance to take on Unicaja Basketball training concepts". He added that "all this is the result of the work we have been doing for two years on a bureaucratic, technical, and administrative level".

The Unicaja women's team is in pre-season, and is in good shape, said López Nieto. Last year, they finished fifth, but this year, they are looking ahead to promotion, "and as I have suggested to the Mayor, if we are among the top four teams in the league, we could play the entire promotion phase here in Mijas. It would be a great and meaningful thing for the city".

Finally, the Mayor of the town, José González (PSOE), stressed that "there are many players from Mijas who aspire to play in Unicaja Basketball. Some already play in this team thanks to work done previously in Mijas in youth sports and, in particular, in basketball, both men's and women's".

The 'Women's League Two', in which Unicaja Feminine participates, is currently the third highest competition for women's basketball clubs in Spain, organised by the Spanish Basketball Federation.

Mijas blood in Unicaja Women's

Three of Unicaja Women's players are from Mijas, including their captain, Marta Ortega, who did not want to miss this Monday's presentation of this agreement, and these new jerseys that, she stresses, she will wear from now on "with great pride".

The 21-year-old player trained with the Mijas Basketball Club for twelve years, "until I went to Fuengirola, and from there, Unicaja called me. At that time, they didn't have a women's team, so I started playing in Malaga, and I'm still here, happy, playing shooting guard or point guard".
