Members of the local Corporation did not want to miss the event either

At last, the Cerros del Águila residents could finally get back to their open-air party. There was a lot of enthusiasm in a large number of participants. More than 300 people collected their invitations to be present on a festive day of coexistence.

The neighbours met last Saturday, after a two-year break due to the pandemic and enjoyed a festive evening in which expectations exceeded, as they did not expect so many people. The President of the Cerros del Águila homeowners' association, Anne Hernández, said, "Tonight, many people are celebrating life. Some 300 people have bought tickets, more than we expected, to tell you the truth, but it's good".

Anne has been organising this annual event for more than thirteen years, bringing together her neighbours. On this occasion, they celebrated "with paella, sangria, and live music. I'm going to do a lottery for the Red Cross, and everything is free for the owners. The guests have to pay, but not much, seven euros", Anne explained.

María Victoria Soria is one of the young neighbours who value this type of event. She was happy to have come along with her family, as "this is great for the neighbourhood, to meet people living around here", she explained.

A municipal corporation group also attended the meeting. They spent a pleasant time in the Cerros del Águila gardens, where the event took place. The Mijas Mayor, José González (PSOE), emphasised that " it is a different atmosphere, where multiculturalism, different nationalities, neighbours from all over the world proliferate".

The PSOE Municipal Group spokesman, Roy Pérez, remembered next to the community President, "how lively these street parties were and that moment of coexistence with all the neighbours around here, from the musicians, who are also residents, to the residents...".

The Cs Municipal Group spokesman, José Carlos Martín, thanked the association because "it is always generating this type of event and they have always organised it with such affection and care". The PP councillor Mario Bravo stressed that "it is one of the most traditional festivals as people want to see each other, talk and enjoy a bit of this fabulous night that is neither hot nor cold".

In short, many locals, a good atmosphere, a flea market full of second-hand articles, delicious gastronomy as a meeting point for Spaniards and foreigners, and the will to resume celebrations. It is what we saw at the Cerros del Águila street party.
