Both associations carry out their social work in the municipality. The first one helps those most in need, and the second is a cat protector

This weekend, three local associations have joined in a charity lunch to raise funds to help those who need it most. The 'Asociación de Vecinos Atalaya Macorra' hosted this event organised by Avatés in their benefit and the cat shelter Aristochat. "As you know, we are an association that participates in social intervention, and that is what we are doing, to help all the people and associations requesting our help", declared Pepi Moya, Avatés' president.

The Aristochat cat rescue and adoption centre currently helps more than 200 animals. Many citizens collaborated with them for twenty years, but it was reduced after the pandemic. According to its president, Chantal Lancelot, "it is important that people know we have monthly expenses. We do not only have to support now, but also every month as we have between 6,000 and 7,000 euros in monthly bills to pay". The recently elected  Atalaya Macorra President, Pedro Valenzuela, said, "within the associations, we have to try to join forces to help a group of people who help others".

Charity
Those attending this lunch, including members of the corporation mijeña, could taste the charity menu. It consisted of a rice stew accompanied by a tomato picadillo, a drink, bread, and dessert for only 10 euros. The Mijas Councillor, José González (PSOE), said, "we have come together to collaborate helping the groups on this cause. The Mijas Town Hall has to promote as closely as possible the corporate work of those neighbours who join together for a common purpose". The Councillor for Citizen Participation, Tamara Vera (PSOE), added that "we wanted to join them as usual. We are standing by our groups when they need it and when they, at the same time, consider that it is appropriate to hold a charity event".

The Councillor for Pets, Candela León (Cs), said we are " grateful, above all, with all the associative networks we have, they are supportive. It shows that Mijas are always with their associations". Finally, the Mijas PP Municipal Group spokesman, Ángel Nozal, stressed that "we could not miss this event, aimed at raising funds to help people who, unselfishly, take care of abandoned animals".
