British school St Anthony's has been paying its respects to Queen Elizabeth II since the Queen's death. They observed a minute's silence after her death and worked with the students on the monarch's career and significance. This Monday, on her funeral day, they wanted to pay a small tribute to her. The nearly 300 students of this school in Camino de Coín have passed by a portrait drawing of the Queen to leave paper flowers in the British flag colours.

According to the school's technical director, Luis Miguel Díaz, "the Queen is an important icon for them. We are talking about British citizens who live and work in Mijas, so the feeling of homeland and nation develops even more. The Queen means everything to them in the British sense of the word. They are also in another country, so the distance increases the feeling".

The school's pupils also followed the Queen's funeral and burial live. "This has already been done by the older ones, the secondary students, as it is a historic moment, and they can understand what is happening. For them, we have prepared a live broadcast of the funeral in the hall," said Díaz.

St. Anthony's is a British school based in Mijas since 1968. Its pupils come mainly from UK families living in the municipality. The school follows an English education curriculum in which the history of this country and its monarchy is a compulsory subject. What happened on 19th September 2022 will be part of the subject to be studied.
