“He was a much-loved artist not only for his work but also for his personality and sense of humour. It is how the friend and artist Ernst Kraft speaks of Alan Burden, who passed away on Sunday, 4th September. “My dear friend and great artist Alan Burden died peacefully”, explained Kraft, who recalled Burden’s career in Mijas, his adopted village. The artist (England, 1938) arrived in Mijas in 1983. “He studied Art and Design in painting and lithography. He then studied Art Education at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, receiving a diploma in Art Education. From 1967 to 1983, he taught Art lessons in the English school system. Throughout this time, he exhibited as an artist, and since moving to Spain in 1983, he has been a full-time professional painter,” recalls his partner.
Burden showed his artwork on several occasions in Mijas. He also took it to an international level with exhibitions in England, America, Holland, Portugal, and Germany, among other cities. “Since I established my residence in Mijas, Andalusia, all my works have focused on the wonders of the Andalusian and Spanish landscape”, said Burden in some of the interviews he gave to the media. A lover of art, life, the abstract, and humour, the painter leaves his work as a legacy. Many of us will remember him with great affection. Farewell!
