Local Police vacate fifty properties in the first half of the year

  • The Police Headquarters operational base receives most squatting warnings.

The latest action happened on the 16th of June. The operational base received an occupation warning on a Calahonda property

he Housing Eviction Unit of the Mijas Local Police has evicted fifty unauthorised squats during the first six months of this year. As reported, the last action happened on June 16th, when the operational headquarters received an alert about a squat in a house in Calahonda

Thus, agents of the Housing Eviction Unit of the Local Police of Mijas immediately went to the place, verifying 'in situ' the squat. After meeting with its owner, they proceeded to identify the individual as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of usurpation and transferred him to the Guardia Civil for his subsequent transfer to judicial disposition.

Last May, the La Cala Neighbourhood Council held a security meeting with Local Police and Guardia Civil officers to respond to the main concerns of those present, in terms of public safety and where the issue of squatting in the municipality, especially in the urbanisations, was discussed.

With a staff of around 150 officers, the Mijas Local Police ensures the safety of a municipality of 149 kilometres and 91,000 inhabitants distributed in three population centres, scattered areas and urbanisations. A complex job for which the Town Hall, says the government team, "continues to invest daily through numerous improvements in the force. The last one, at the end of June, when four new agents entered the body".
