Thanks to the collaboration between The Marbella Rotary Club and AquaMijas, 500 Ukrainian refugees were able to experience a different kind of Sunday. The aquatic day was great fun for these families who, due to the conflict in their country, are currently living in the Malaga province. "I think it is a good option for them to forget for a day, and enjoy what we enjoy with no problems at all'', said the AquaMijas Director, María del Mar Asesio.
The Ukrainian association on the Costa del Sol, Maydan Malaga, was delighted with this opportunity. "We are with two buses that have arrived from Marbella. We also have a lot of people coming from Malaga. Thank you very much, as it is so different from the life we have been leading lately. The children were desperate for Sunday to come, and now they are happy. We just walked through the door, and I don't have any of them with me", commented the secretary of Maydan Malaga, Olena Sampara.
The numbers of refugees in Malaga are only increasing, and activities like these are an encouraging source in the hard times they are going through. "We already have 8,000 refugees in the province of Malaga, so 500 people who can enjoy the park is a lot for us', added Sampara.
Thanks to the cooperation of the groups involved and AquaMijas, there will be a second day. "Probably, it will be repeated in September. We will give the same opportunity to new refugees to come and spend a day. We are happy and grateful for the cooperation of the Marbella Rotary Club and to Olena, who has made it easy for us to organise and manage all this,' said Asesio.
