Barbecues and stubble burning banned due to high fire risk

  • The ordinance that affects forest land and areas of forest influence will be in force until 15th October
  • The regional ordinance will be in force until 15 October.

From the 1st of June the barbecues in El Esparragal Park have been sealed, and their use is forbidden

Mijas Town Hall has announced the entry into force of the barbecues and stubble burning ban from the 1st of June until the 15th of October in forest land and areas of forest influence. It banned the use of fire in any form (barbecues, bonfires, agricultural burning, etc.) and the motor vehicle traffic in these areas, as stated in the Order of 21/05/2009 of the Junta de Andalucía.

As a result of the regulations, from 1st June, the burning of natural vegetation and agricultural and forestry waste will be prohibited, as will the driving of motor vehicles off the road network. In addition, the use of fire for cooking will not be allowed during this period, nor will it be in camping or recreational areas equipped for this purpose.

The prohibitions are thus limited to all forest land and areas of forest influence (even if they are agricultural and urban) located within 400 metres of forest land.

For all these reasons, as of 1st June, the barbecues' use has been prohibited in areas such as El Esparragal, as it is considered an area of forest influence, with the Los Olivos park being exempt from these limitations as it is within an urban area.

The Town Hall asks users to take the utmost responsibility and extreme caution in the coming months of heat in Mijas, as its climate and natural characteristics presents a high risk of forest fires
