The Operational Services Department has completed the renovation and removal of architectural barriers in four streets in Sector-31 in Las Lagunas. This morning, the Councillor in charge of the Department, José Carlos Martín (Cs), visited the area to check the results. Specifically, work has been carried out on the Álvaro Mutis, Pablo Neruda, Octavio Paz, and León Felipe streets, where the previous white paving has been replaced with a more up-to-date one that not only improves the aesthetics of these streets but also improves safety.

Work has been carried out on 1,450 square metres in all. The execution period was four months, and the investment was 125,000 euros. "These works are part of the improvement actions that are not complete as in other streets.  We are replacing the old white flooring, which is in poor condition, in many areas of our municipality and, particularly in certain areas, we are eliminating architectural barriers to improve accessibility", Martín pointed out.

This street renovation and improvement plan also includes the  pedestrian crossing fitting with pictograms for the blind, people with an autism spectrum disorder, or other types of functional diversity. Martín explained that the pictograms on these crossings are made of longer-lasting material. They are installed on the pavement itself, and are in line with the rest of the municipality. "The government will keep installing them in the city to provide greater safety and users’ accessibility", said the Councillor.

"With this action, we have practically completed the work on Sector-31 streets, in terms of eliminating architectural barriers and flooring," explained Martín, who also said that "we have already prepared the next place where we are going to work, which will probably be in the La Cala area, as soon as we can find a date that will not cause tourism problems".
