The Mobility and Transport Department of Mijas Town Council has taken stock of the number of public transport users during the first four months of the year, with the M-222 and M-223 lines having more users than in the months before the health crisis. According to the Councillor of the Department, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE), "these figures are a good example that the measures we have been implementing in recent months, which bring the districts closer to the main population centres, are having an effect. This means this transport is chosen by many residents who are increasingly using public transport".
Some of the measures include the increase in timetables for the services provided on the lines operating in the municipality and the frequency. Also, with the installation of new bus shelters, "we have also addressed the service provision at weekends, increased stops, and implemented on-demand stops as well as improving the vehicles' conditions". Cruz added that "we have also increased some lines such as the Valtocado line, or added stops such as the Mijas Golf stop on the M-223 line".
A resident's demand
Yolanda Sedeño, President of the La Loma de la Alquería Neighbourhood Association, explained the demands they had been making are now covered, such as the recently installed bus shelters. "Especially at weekends, when the residents had to use their vehicles". Sedeño added that "now they have more possibilities to go out, both the elderly and the younger ones. Besides, as there are extended hours, some people leave their cars parked and use public transport". Thus, the Area reported that they will continue to implement improvements to promote the use of public transport in the town.
