From June onwards, the solidarity tables of the Foreigners Department of Mijas Town Hall will change their timetable to adapt to the summer season. May will be the last month when these stalls will be set up on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 1:30 pm. "We will have a summer timetable: the tables will be set up on the last Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 pm to 10 pm, to avoid the hottest hours," said the Councillor in charge of the area, Arancha López (Cs),
Last Saturday, in addition to the tables where the different social and animal welfare groups offer information and ask for the collaboration of the residents, there was also musical entertainment. The Costa Soul Singers choir gave a concert while those interested strolled among the stalls to help with one of the causes.
The groups
Mijas Felina is one of the associations which, as well as raising funds, seeks to raise awareness of animal abandonment. "We try to help where we can, as I don't neuter cats or catch animals in the street, so I come to lend a hand", said one of the Mijas Felina volunteers, Manuela Helbing. For her part, another of the members who help the collective, Elva Barretto, said that she comes to these tables "to collaborate and make people aware that kittens, like all animals, have feelings and cannot be abandoned to continue breeding on the street. People must know that there are up to 140 new cats abandoned on the street after two years".
These tables also serve to make visible the work that the groups do for the municipality. "We can all collaborate with these associations by simply buying from the stalls, as the items are affordable. Whenever we buy, we are not only helping them economically, but we are also collaborating directly with these people and animals that need our help," concluded López.
