The first widening phase of the Camino Viejo de Coín is ready to be put out to tender

  • The first section, 1 kilometre long, runs from the Víctimas del Terrorismo roundabout to Venta La Morena
  • The works of this first phase will take around eight months to complete, added the head of Infrastructures.

It already has all the sectoral reports, an investment of six million euros, and a completion period of eight months

The Mijas Town Councillor for Works and Infrastructures, José Carlos Martín (Cs), informed this week of the main details of the project for the widening of the Camino Viejo de Coín, located in Las Lagunas and owned by the municipality. This is a long-awaited project, said Martín, "we will have two roads, more lighting, pavements, and parking, among other elements".

The Councillor said that this action is divided into three phases. The drafting project for the first section, approximately one kilometre long, runs from the Victims of Terrorism roundabout to the junction with Camino Campanales (Venta La Morena), has already been completed. "An area that is growing a lot and where hundreds of vehicles circulate daily. These improvements will alleviate the volume of traffic, as well as increasing the drivers safety and pedestrians who travel along this road, currently unlit and lacking pavements," explained Martín.

  • According to the Councillor for Works, José Carlos Martín, these works will take 8 months.

According to the Councillor, the project has all its sectoral reports, has an allocated budget of six million euros, and "will go out to tender as soon as the budget amendment we presented at the March plenary session is finally approved".

The works of this first phase will take around eight months to complete, added the head of Infrastructures, "so our idea is to put out to tender as soon as possible, so that we can begin these much-needed works".

Second and third phases of the dual carriageway

Martín also indicated that the second section project goes from Venta La Morena to the Mijas Golf roundabout. It is already in the drafting phase, "just as the third phase project from Mijas Golf to the Entrerríos roundabout, it has also been drafted, but this is an action that is financed by private developers, that is to say, they are urban development charges".

To conclude, the Councillor for Works emphasised that the widening of the Camino Viejo de Coín also includes the complete pipe remodelling that run under this road, the creation of a two-metre wide parallel lane on the right-hand side, and the "accesses improvement to the future hospital".
