Josele González: "This award is a recognition of all the effort made by this government team to help our self-employed and businesses"

The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the Employment Promotion Councillor, Laura Moreno (PSOE), have attended this Wednesday in Seville, the presentation of the Local Governance Awards given by the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP) and whose first prize in the category 'To the public initiative during the pandemic' has gone to the OREA Plan of Mijas Town Hall.

"This award is a recognition of all the effort made by this government team to help our self-employed and family businesses when they were going through the worst. No public institution had an instruction manual on how to manage a global pandemic but the Mijas Town Hall knew from minute one that we had to put on the table all the resources to help the business fabric to survive in a complicated year", recalls González. He has stressed how "the OREA Plan has become a benchmark not only at the provincial level but also Andalusian. A proof is this award given to us by the FAMP and the list of municipalities that contacted us to extrapolate this plan to their local government".

Support for the business fabric

The Office for the Entrepreneurs Rescue and the Self-Employed, the OREA Plan, with direct aid to the business fabric, benefited more than 3,500 family businesses and the self-employed in the town. "This is a high figure of which we should be proud, but I do not want to forget the 6,000 workers in our municipality who also indirectly benefited from this plan," said Moreno. He wanted to highlight how it was managed "in record time this aid of 12 million euros. It shows the team efforts that are part of the Employment Promotion Department, and which I do not want to forget on this special day as without them this aid would not have reached its recipients.

The award ceremony for the first edition of the FAMP Local Governance Awards was held in the Caixaforum Auditorium in Seville with 250 people from all over Andalusia, including authorities, award winners, members of the scientific jury and the President of the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), Fernando Rodríguez Villalobos. These awards are "a recognition of the local government's good work as it has played an essential role" in promoting social cohesion, progress and socio-economic development of Andalusia. He also recalled that during 43 years of history of democratic municipalities "the greatest transformation of our towns and cities has been undertaken".
