"Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui" from Mijas collects 1,200 kilos of food for Tindouf

  • In the last months, 1,200 kilos of basic non-perishable foodstuffs have been collected.

Shortly, it will be sent to the refugee population in the Saharawi camps

The association "Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui" from Mijas has managed to collect in recent months up to 1,200 kilos of basic non-perishable food that will soon be sent to the Saharawi refugee population in the Tindouf camps. For yet another year, the Mijas group has collaborated in the Andalusian Caravan for Peace campaign. The Malaga province alone has collected more than 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid.

The Mijas group is grateful for the contributions received from neighbours, business people, educational centres, and the Mijas Town Hall itself, which, according to its President, Mari Carmen Cortés, will help to "alleviate the food shortages suffered by the refugees in the Tindouf camps for more than 46 years, in the hope of returning to their land in peace and freedom".

For her part, the Councillor of the government team Laura Moreno (PSOE) stressed the importance of the fact that, once again, this year, the Mijas Town Hall is collaborating with this group and regretted that "the current circumstances after the pandemic have prevented the reception of children during the summer season". The Councillor for Citizen Participation, Tamara Vera (PSOE), said that "not even the pandemic has stopped the Mijas people’s empathy who have not hesitated, for a second, to continue collaborating with this association. I would like to thank all the Mijas residents, and the private companies for all the help they have given. These 1,200 kilos of food can reach those who need it most. There is no doubt that our town is very supportive".
