From next week, the sections of the Senda Litoral in the Doña Lola, Océano Beach, and Calahonda areas will be closed to traffic due to repair work following the November storm. The work, which will begin next week and will take three months to complete, involves an investment of 280,000 euros. These are repairs to foundations for which Mijas Town Hall has had to process an emergency file. The Councillor for Beaches and Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), said that “the idea is that by Easter, that is, by April, all our sections of Senda Litoral will be in perfect condition again. Hopefully, we will be lucky if no storm hit us during this time and cause more damage in other areas”.
Martín explained that “all the decking and the railing will be dismantled. The foundations are going to be removed to be rebuilt, practically from scratch, with the piles and the new placement of the decking and the railings”. He added that “in one area, it also affected part of a housing estate. The glass railing and the retaining wall will be replaced”.

Also, the Mayor said that some breakwater protection will be installed to try to prevent further damage in the future as a result of new storms. Provisional detours have been created in the areas of Océano Beach and Calahonda to be able to continue along the path during the next few weeks. “We ask for patience because although these works are not of great importance, from the point of view of the area affected, it is true that they will prevent passage on these sections once the works begin,” concluded the Councillor.
