The new car park opens to the public in El Juncal

  • The neighbours were happy and excited. They assure that this infrastructure "will alleviate the parking problems in the area"
  • El Juncal car park is already a reality from today, December 27th

From today, until the 1st of February, the car park will be free of charge

This morning, the first vehicles began to enter the recently inaugurated car park at El Juncal in Las Lagunas, an infrastructure that will make 162 parking spaces available to the public. And, without knowing it, Juan José was the first resident to use the new car park for the first time: "I was looking for parking, and I found the car park. It's going to be very good for all of us residents", he said, while Juan Francisco, who commutes to work every morning in the neighbourhood, was unaware of the existence of this structure: "I think it's great because I've already been around a few times and couldn't find a parking space on the street", he added.

And take note of this date, because until 1st February, the new car park will be free of charge. "For 30 days, courtesy by the Mijas Town Hall", explained the Mayor of Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), this car park will not cost money, "so that residents can see first hand the modern facilities that make up this new infrastructure which it does not lack anything," he said.

This is a new structure which will solve the parking problems in the El Juncal area. "It was a situation that, for reasons of work and so on, was already overwhelming us. It has been good for all the residents, as we needed parking spaces because we were very short of them. I am happy, and I don't think I'm wrong if I say that the other residents are too", said the president of the El Juncal Neighbourhood Association, Miguel González.

The new infrastructure

With an investment of 3.3 million euros, this new underground car park has a catchment area of more than 70,000 square metres and complements the existing on-street parking and garages. "This was long overdue", said the neighbour and former president of the El Juncal Neighbourhood Association, Manuel Marín, "On one hand, every day, there are more and more cars in the neighbourhood, and there is no new parking, and on the other hand, it has been a long-demanded petition from the residents". For his part, Francisco Mesa, also a resident of the neighbourhood, added that "We are satisfied with this work, although, at one point, I thought that it would never be finished, things are achieved over time and with work", he concluded.
