COVID cases jump after Christmas Eve

  • Almost 20,000 new infections have been registered in Andalucía in the last 72 hours
  • In Mijas, the rate has increased by more than 150 people since Thursday

The update of the data by the Health and Family Department from la Junta de Andalucía, after the three days of public holidays: Christmas Eve, Christmas and Sunday 26th, confirms the worst predictions: a more than worrying rise in both the number of infected people and the incidence of COVID.

In Mijas, the rate has risen by more than 150 points, from 517 to 672.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and there is also a new death to report, bringing the death toll to 56. In the last seven days, 325 new infections have been confirmed, the total number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic exceeds 8,000 cases, reaching 8,205, while the number of people cured is 7,386.

Almost 20,000 were infected in the last few hours in Andalucía

A total of 19,853 new COVID cases have been recorded in the region in the last 72 hours. In addition, 12 new deaths have been recorded in Andalucía, five of them in Málaga, and the cumulative incidence rate has risen by 170 points to 842. In Málaga, the rate stands at 851.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and a total of 8,210 infections have been recorded in the last week.  On the other hand, 17 municipalities in Málaga have exceeded the barrier of 1,000 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, most of them are in the regions of Axarquía and Ronda, as well as Málaga capital.
