Education present the innitiative ‘‘Your toys will get a lot of play’

  • School centres and ampas are collaborating with the municipal Department for Education |

It is a campaign organised to collect new toys on behalf of the Red Cross in Mijas

This campaign has been organised to collect new toys on behalf of the Red Cross in Mijas, and which joins the annual campaign that this NGO organises for this same reason, to reach more people and allow all children to enjoy playing with new toys in this special season. “We are organising this campaign at the Department for Education with the collaboration of all school centres, managing directors, teachers, caretakers and AMPAS – parent’s associations – who are going to be the ones collecting the toys and spreading the campaign so people know where they can take the toys”, said Mariló Olmedo (Cs), Councillor for Education. . Although toys are received at school centres, anyone wishing to collaborate, even if they are not part of the school community, can bring new toys to any school centre in Mijas, both primary or secondary school centres. “Mijas is a very caring society, we must remember that we are going through very difficult times, with many families in need. We have always had them, but now with the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation is even worse, with more families needing help and what we want is for all children in Mijas to wake up and see that - Three Wise Men - have also reached their homes and have left a gift, so that no child in Mijas should go without a toy” added the Councillor. Choose a new toy, bring it to any of the school centres in Mijas and the Red Cross will distribute them among families in need. “When we receive the toys we already have a list of all the children and a letter saying what toys they would like to receive, so we are going to try and meet all their wishes with the toys we get. Then, volunteers will wrap the toys and we will call all the families so they can come and pick them up”, explained Miriam Fernández, volunteer from the Red Cross Youth Group in Mijas. The campaign is called “your toys will get a lot of play” and runs between the 13th and 16th of December at all school centres in Mijas. Collaborate with this campaign, it’s worth a child’s smile.
