Families with a member with functional diversity will soon receive a new economic breather thanks to the Mijas Town Hall. The mayor, Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for Social Services, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE), reported on Tuesday 26th that the provisional list of beneficiaries for aid to people with functional diversity 2021 has already been published. The 450 people who requested this economic contribution will have 10 working days from last Monday 25th to correct any incident related to their application, according to municipal sources. “This year, these grants have had special relevance because not only have we been able, from the Social Services department, to manage the 2020 grants but also to put the 2021 grants into operation. We are talking about the management of more than one million euros between the two calls that will go to directly subsidize the therapies of these citizens of Mijas”, stated González, who recalled that the Mijas Local Council is “one of the most sensitive to the expenses that these families have to face, budgeting for that aid”. The mayor went on to say: “In addition, in the case of Adimi (Virgen de la Peña Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities), we have subsidized three different projects this year for a value of 80,000 euros, guaranteeing that this great centre can move forward”, said the mayor.

With a budget of 525,000 euros for each of the calls, the one for 2020 has been requested by 478 ‘mijeños’ and ‘mijeñas’ and the one for 2021 by 450. Almost 1000 applications “I would like to highlight the tireless work that social workers have had to carry out between these two calls with almost one thousand applications received. An important effort, but for which we have opted to catch up with the provision of aid that will help alleviate the expenses that these families have to cover on therapies and materials”, said Zapico. The councillor also explained that “the provisional list of beneficiaries of the 2021 call is already displayed on the notice board of the Local Council and is also posted at the offices of Social Services and, after 10 days to enable corrections, we will publish the final list”. From Adimi, the president, Cristobal Moreno, emphasized that the relatives of people with functional diversity do not feel that they are alone “thanks to the Mijas Town Hall”.  Moreno went on to say: “The money will be very useful for us, because it will allow us to invest in more therapies for our members. Having a child or a relative with a disability in some cases condemns families to poverty and Mijas is one of the few municipalities that provides this aid”.
