The regulations for grants to pay for summer schools are updated

  • The corporation presented the initial approval of the regulatory ordinance for the granting of aid to pay for summer schools.

The objective is to provide these scholarships with a regulatory framework.

In plenary session, the corporation presented the initial approval of the regulatory ordinance for the granting of aid to pay for summer schools. The objective is, according to the councillor for Social Services, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE), to provide these scholarships with a regulatory framework. Thus, it has been considered necessary that “registration at the Town Hall must be at least three years to be able to access these grants” and it is established at “100 euros per beneficiary and month, with an extraordinary amount of up to 300 euros for students with disabilities”. The item went ahead with the favourable votes of PSOE and Ciudadanos, while the PP and the two non-attached councillors abstained.

In this regard, the councillor for the PP in Mijas, Carmen Márquez, justified the reason for her vote arguing that in Mijas Pueblo there has been no summer school because “there were not enough students as parents could not afford the expense”.

This is a situation that Zapico attributed to the various indicators of the ‘Junta de Andalucía’, which manages public schools, centres that organise summer schools in the months of July and August: “the problem that has arisen in some centres where the summer schools have not opened has more to do with the lack of definition, clarity and rigor of the indicators of the ‘Junta’ and that have created much confusion among the companies and entities that managed the summer schools”.
